Dave Brockie of GWAR RIP?

Ph: Jorge A Gwooki

GWAR frontman Dave Brockie has reportedly been found dead in his home this weekend. 50 year old Brockie, aka Oderus Urungus in the band, played bass in Gwar and founded the band back in 1984.

This lot are famed for their outrageous shows playing thrash metal and dressing up in the most insane outfits you will ever witness, definitely one of the best live experiences you would have ever encountered. Most people would leave a Gwar show covered in fake blood and foam spat from the pussy of a nun or the throth from a six foot penis – so it’s safe to say that the train journey back home sat with commuters on the last train covered in blood was always one to cherish as a result.

The strangest thing is that he posted a selfie on the 18th March on his FB page saying “Happy to be alive today. Hope you are too!”. We hope that this is not some strange rumour gone wrong. If not, it was an honour to have seen Dave Brockie play live and our thoughts go out to all of his family and friends. RIP.

Tragedy strikes SXSW as car ploughs through crowds

Tragedy has hit SXSW music festival overnight as a driver ploughed through streets full of people causing absolute chaos. It’s said that at least 2 people have died and many others are seriously injured. The driver was said to be tased and apprehended.

We have a lot of friends out there right now, and that festival is full of good people who didn’t deserve to be caught up in this. Our thoughts go out to everyone involved in what looks to be a shocking moment of absolute madness.

This video filmed by Socrates Villarreal surfaced this morning recorded just minutes after the incident happened. A press conference from Austin police has also been released just now.

Watch OFF!’s Hypnotized video with David Yow

david_yow_off_jesuslizard_hypnotized

OFF!‘s new video for their ‘Hypnotized‘ track features none other than David Yow from the Jesus Lizard dressed as a caped crusader with a nose full of chore fighting T.S.O.L’s Jack Grisham!

Quite fitting considering the last time I had the pleasure of meeting David Yow was in a dressing room at a Girls Against Boys / Done Lying Down show at the Venue in New Cross in the 90s. He asked about what UK weed I had on me, told him it was quite strong and he yeah-yeah’ed me, taking a massive woof on my bowl with a look of “I know what’s up” on his face….he puked his guts up ten minutes later.

Anyway, back to this OFF! video. It’s fucking rad. What more did you expect from hardcore’s leaders right now? New album ‘Wasted Years’ cannot come soon enough.

April 7th on Vice. Pre-order it.
