The Specials 2009 tour

The Specials are reuniting for a 2009 tour to celebrate their 30th anniversary. Original members of the band including Hall, Neville Staple, Sir Horace Gentleman, Roddy Radiation, Lynval Golding and John Bradbury are all confirmed to play the gigs. Tickets for the tour go on sale at 9am on December 11th this week for the following dates:

Newcastle Academy (April 22)
Sheffield Academy (23)
Birmingham Academy (25, 26)
Glasgow Academy (28)
Manchester Apollo (May 3)
London Brixton Academy (6, 7)

Bristol legends Portishead are back with a new single called Magic Doors released on 15th December via Island Records. Collectors should look out for the 12″ etched vinyl and downloaders will find live tracks in the digital bundle. Zero Boys re-release in February

Probably the news story of the day here: the label Secretly Canadian are re-releasing the mammoth “Vicious Circle” album by Indianapolis punk legends, ZERO BOYS.

This was one of the best debut punk records ever made so it’s going to be very welcome here at Crossfire when it gets a release on February 2nd 2009.

This band dominated the punk scene in the US between 1979 and 1983 and were the band to put the Midwest firmly on the hardcore map. More good news is that the the lost second album, “History Of” will also be available so look out for these as they are classics and ultimately must haves for your ears. Minnesotan rapper P.O.S. will release his new album in February.

The Doomtree member’s third solo album, Never Better, will hit the stores on February 3rd and contains 16 tracks, around half of which were produced by the man himself. The tracklisting is:

Atmosphere reissue album

Atmosphere will reissue their seminal God Loves Ugly album early in 2009.

The group’s third album will come complete with a DVD of the God Loves Ugly release parties, which itself is a reissue, having originally been brought out as Sad Clown Bad Dub 4. GLU will contain classics such as the title track, Fuck You Lucy, Modern Man’s Hustle and Shrapnel amongst others.

Flaming Lips film out now!

The Flaming Lips have released their film Chrismas On Mars.

The “fantastical film freakout” has been in production since 2001 and is directed by frontman Wayne Coyne, with co-director George Salisbury who is in charge of the band’s audiovisuals. The film, unsurprisingly from the title, takes place during Christmas on Mars when an oxygen generator malfunctions.
