Crystal Castles announce new single

Crystal Castles are back with a new 12” inch single which shall be released as part of record day celebrations.

The single will be limited to a vinyl only pressing of 500 copies, featuring a new song “Doe Deer” and “pure guitar-noise” versions of older tracks. These tracks were recorded before the band added electronics to their sound, and feature the songs “Mother Knows Best”, “Insectica”, and “Seed”.

Record Store Day takes place on April 17th, and the band will also play a one-off show at London’s Heaven venue on April 20th.

Reading/Leeds line up revealed

Reading and Leeds’ mainstage line up has been revealed.

The Friday at Reading [Sunday at Leeds] will see Guns N Roses headlining over Queens Of The Stone Age, Biffy Clyro, Lostprophets, Nofx, Gogol Bordello, and Billy Talent playing, the Saturday [Friday for Leeds] has Dizzee Rascal, The Cribs, The Maccabees, Modest Mouse, and The Gaslight Anthem with Arcade Fire headlining and Sunday [Leeds’ Saturday] will see Blink 182 finish the festival off ably supported by Weezer, Cypress Hill, Limp Bizkit, Paramore and You Me At Six.

The Radio 1/NME Stage will see the likes of Pendulum, Enter Shikari, Klaxons, We Are Scientists, LCD Soundsystem, Phoenix and Foals playing.

Refused won’t be reforming

Refused are not on the verge of reforming.

Many people thought that the holding page of the website Official Refused, which said “Refused, coming soon…”, meant that a reunion was on the cards for the Swedish band, who split in 1998. However, despite Zane Lowe tweeting about how huge it is, it seems that the page is for a re-issue of their seminal The Shape Of Punk To Come album, rather than a get-together.

Tame Impala drop Innerspeaker

I spent the entire weekend listening to Australian rockers Tame Impala. If you like your rock 70s tinged and on the psych side then this could well be your new favourite band. They have an album called Innerspeaker dropping on Modular over there right now so expect them to be bringing their laid back shit over to the UK fairly soon. Ganglians album details + dates

Monster Head Room, the debut album from Acid Pop group Ganglians, is set be released in the UK this coming May.

The record shall be released on May 10th, proceeded by the single ‘Candy Girl’ on April 12th.

Belle and Sebastian to curate ATP

ATP will return to its roots this December as it is created by Belle and Sebastian.

Belle and Sebastian curated the first ever ATP event back in 1999, known then as The Bowlie Weekender, and this year’s December event will be appropriately titled Bowlie 2.

Bowlie 2 will take place between the 10th and 12th of December, with line-up details to follow.

New Black Lips album this summer

Atlanta garage rockers Black Lips have revealed some details about their forthcoming 5th album.

The band have been working with Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox and Lockett Pundt on new material, and are hoping to get a record out “by the end of summer”.

Speaking to Billboard.com, the band’s Ian Saint Pe predicted the album would be released “September-October, when school gets back in.”
