2013 really has been special for the mainstream discussing skateboarding. Buzzfeed’s latest ‘list‘ today is the golden ’21 Signs You Had A Skater Phase‘ and definitely one of the worst. Do people actually get paid to write this shit?

Ewen Bower Welcome to Vox

Sirus f Gahan’s latest edit features bad-boy Ewen Bower skating in Vox Shoes. It’s a very nice welcome edit, show your appreciation.
Stroud has a spanking new indoor skatepark called Rush that is getting some great chit chat right now. The Fifty Fifty team headed down there for a lock in and came back with Louis Gane’s footage of Phil Parker, Ollie Lock, Josh Arnott, Tom Gibbs, Barber, Pat Garrahy and more.

Magenta pro’s Leo Valls & Ben Gore took to the hills of San Francisco for this latest edit with downhill fun for miles. Enjoy this driveway bump footage, so much fun.

Riley Hawk pro for Baker

There’s no skater of the year title for Riley Hawk just yet but you cannot ignore the amount of amazing footage he managed to get down on tape this year. His huge bag of tricks did the talking in 2013 for sure. Tony Hawk, Andrew Reynolds and the Baker team tell him the good news in this clip that ran over the weekend. Baker has a new pro and Terry Kennedy even has rhymes for him.
Heroin’s Video Nasty DVD had something special from all over the globe this year but the bonkers skateboarding skills of Japanese aficionado Gou Miyagi had tongues wagging all over the web. This part is a marmite number for some and for others a trip outside the norm. Enjoy something different today.
This Subspecies section is worth watching too.
Joe Gavin‘s section from the Snake Eyes Die DVD is online alongside a whole host of others today. Get some of Manchester’s finest right here via Note.
So here it is, Thrasher’s Skater of the Year 2013 is…..
There were so many others who could have taken this crown this year. Jim Greco proved he can still bust it at the highest level. Westgate killed it all year, Grant Taylor and Ben Raybourn both had so much quality footage out there, Bob Burnquist pushed big tranny skating through the roof and changed the game and Mark Suciu’s huge amount of street footage should have pushed him into the top 3. Then there’s Nyjah Huston, who despite dropping an epic edit to complete his year didn’t get past the post despite wearing the tee.
So the prize has fallen to the incredible Ishod Wair who was announced this morning. Congrats all round as Philly’s star player earnt it through consistent style and makes the most difficult skateboarding look simple.
Think he deserved it? Who got your vote?

The Curzon cinema in Soho, London will screen Marten Persiel’s ‘This Ain’t California‘ film next Tuesday evening (10th Dec) that depicts the skate scene in Germany in the 1980s. With footage from back in the day edited with up to date recreated shots, this film that apparently sits between a documentary and a mockumentary looks fun and will be followed panel discussion with director Marten Persiel, artist / activist Skylon and skateboarder Biko Issah.
The film starts at 6.20pm. Book tickets here.
