New Canvas skatepark incoming for Eastbourne

canvas_hampden_park_new_skatepark_eastbourne

It looks like Eastbourne locals will be treated to a new park this Autumn courtesy of CANVAS Spaces who have sent us these newly proposed designs today. The park is a collaboration between locals and Eastbourne’s Borough Council.

The location for this new build is Hampden Park situated just off Hampden Park Drive in Eastbourne and will boast a bowl that with 4.5’ tranisitons rising to 6’ at its deepest. There’s also a flat bank that has been designed with transitioned hump for the good old alley oop ollie and handrails of varying styles from large, flat, round, sloping to straight. The build is set to start next week with a view to opening this September.

More info will follow soon.

Hemel Days

death_squad_crossfire

Last weekend we hit the road to Hemel Hempstead to meet up with the Death team and locals to celebrate the opening of the new shop Kvultivation at the XC skatepark. It was roasting hot, so the place was a sweat box but the jam sessions were fun, bands played, the shop opened and Matt Bain left a dent in the pool.

Death reprobates then headed out to Eaton Bray skatepark in Bedfordshire for chips, beers and to watch Doug annihilate himself on a slide. This edit is the first attemp ever at trying to piece together some phone footage with an olloclip lens for fun. Up Yours.

Urban Isolation by Russell Houghten

freeway_skateboard1

Russell Houghten‘s incredible camera work is highlighted yet again in this REDirect edit that will leave your jaw on the floor. Note that it also pays homage to Matt Hensley‘s timeless classic on that freeway.

This must have taken a huge amount of work but once again Houghten seems to have the knack of being patient enough to make the best skateboard videos out there. Skate Edit of the Week hands down.

As the Static IV video hits shops worldwide this Friday Jimmy Lannon‘s full section has been unleashed onto the web following the Jake Johnson’s epic part that kicked off the week.

Lannon’s laid back style at speed sits well with AZ’s Rather Unique track. That courthouse trick though…

The Triple Tre Flip debate by Taylor Jett

flipThe guys from Network A dropped this trick from Taylor Jett and caused a debate this week after they named this a Triple Tre Flip but the internet has been debating its name since skateboarder Christopher McClure became that guy:

“Don’t wanna be that guy but wouldn’t a “triple tre” technically be 3 kick flips with a 1080 shuv. This is more like a 360 shuv triple kick flip?

Argue amongst yourselves whilst we prep some hippy griptape and watch this.

Happy 50th Birthday to Don Brider!

don_brider_skate1

The UK had a bunch of familiar faces that graced the pages of R.A.D Magazine on a monthly basis back in the late 80s, but one that always stood out for me personally was Don Brider. I mean, his mug is unforgettable for one, and that Tony Hawk hair faze stuff really did the rounds, but most importantly, Don’s skating did all the talking.

In August 1977, Brider’s Nan gave him his first skateboard that “looked like a piece of wood with some nails in it”. From then onwards it was plain sailing. Whether it was Portsmouth’s red brick banks, or Farnborough’s vert ramp, to the coping at Meanwhile 2, Brider ripped everything in style and pushed street skating to all sorts of levels that we could only sit back and admire.

Today, he still makes skate stickers, including our very own. He hates sports brands and chain stores, and abuses people on Facebook like no other. So raise a glass to Don today who celebrates 50 golden years on earth. May there be another 50 in the tank for those they call The Donz!

Happy Birthday!
