Cobain tops dead earners

Kurt Cobain is officially the largest earning dead person. The former Nirvana man has come top of the Forbes.com poll of top deceased earners. Between October 2005 and October this year, he has earned $50 million, much of which came from the sale of 25% of the band’s catalogue to PrimeWave.

This has meant that Elvis, who is normally top of the poll, is 2nd, with a figure of $42 million.

Smashing Pumpkins new material underway

Jimmy Chamberlain, the drummer for the Smashing Pumpkins has blogged on the band’s MySpace about the new material, saying the band have been working with Terry Date and Roy Thomas Barker. He said:

“Great things are on track for the future. As some of you know we are indeed creating music again. Music that comes from a place so pure it will burn the lies off the very souls of those who try to discount it.

We have arrived at a place in our lives where truth and honesty prevail and we are creating from that place. The universe has a way of letting you know that things are right by introducing people like RTB and Terry into the fold. It’s all part of one big cosmic journey, in so that everyone reading this is hitching their silver chord to the Great Pumpkin Space Train! Hope this helps clear some things up for you.”

They were flying to Chile on Saturday and we forced toland in Tampa after the engine was lost. Havoc, of Mobb Deep, said:

“All I can say is God was on our side. It could (have) turned out the opposite way! It makes you look at many things in perspective.”

War of the Roses 2006

Whilst some people are pre-occupied to figure out which way is the ‘best’ way to skate, the UK was repping ends with one of the year’s hottest events since Annabel Chong’s Gangbang.

The War of the Roses staged Lancashire against Yorkshire, but the winner wasn’t relevant when you see the stellar performance everyone put on. Multiple coping slaps and gruff roars for all those involved!

Here are a couple of edits each c/o Perry Kruger and Corpse Hands of the Works Skatepark. Well done chaps.

Panic! At The Disco

There are few new bands out there that could sell out Brixton Academy four nights straight, but Las Vegas scenesters Panic! At the Disco can add that to their ever growing list of accolades.

Having survived the unfriendly hoards at Reading, won Video of The Year at the VMA’s, they’ve now sold over 1.2 million copies of their debut album ‘A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out’. Good going for a band who are barely out of their teens.

‘I Write Sins Not Tragedies’ enjoys a renaissance, having been previously released digitally in February, and for many is already the best known Panic track. With it’s staccato intro, with Brendon Urie’s now familiar dramatic vocals curling their way around guitar chords, it’s the very essence of a great pop song, it’s punk rock roots firmly planted with an increasingly agitated bass line and ruthless hooks.

“I chime in with a ‘Haven’t you people ever heard of closing a goddamn door?’ is increasingly contagious, and Urie’s vocals get under your skin, it’s repetitive and oh so catchy. This single is a piece of drama, it’s theatre for the ears, and it’s what Panic! At The Disco do really well. They’ve a talented lot, these guys – and they’re bringing pop punk to the masses. With the band building momentum with every release, resistance is futile, these guys are just getting better every day. Out this Monday.
