Lucy Love
Last time I checked, Copenhagen wasn’t slap bang in the middle of East London. Yet when you listen to Denmark’s Lucy Love you’d be forgiven for thinking the CD had been mislabelled with a Shystie record. This is absolutely no bad thing, with her hard hitting delivery piercing through the basslines of her tunes.
With a brilliant stage presence, as seen at her performance at London’s Tabernacle, the diminutive MC makes up for her lack of height with great delivery and the energetic way she runs through her tracks. The album features some nice dub-influenced tracks which allow her to ride the vibes, but it is the more upbeat tracks that stick in the memory as instant bangers.
Daddy Was A DJ and No VIP are the two tracks that do this perfectly, more electro than dub, with impossibly catchy melodies and sing-a-long choruses. Below is a video for a live performance of Daddy Was A DJ which tells you all you need to know about Lucy Love. It’s fun, it’s vibrant and it’s just plain good. Make sure you check out the two OK Formula remixes for some full on party bassline gubbins.
She could easily be a grime rapper from London, but the fact she’s Danish and can blast shit like this out is testament to her ability. Big!

There are some people out there that think headphones aren’t all that important. There are some people who think that the headphones you get with your iPod are cool and there’s no point buying any others. These people, clearly, do not listen to good music.
I love bassy music. If the joint doesn’t have a booming bassline, then I ain’t really interested. So when I got these Coloud headphones I knew immediately that the only way to test them out was to blast out some heavier-than-heavy tunes and see how they held up. Thankfully, within 10 seconds of the drop, my eardrums were being pounded and the head was nodding. So tick that off on the list.
Next up, if you’re going to wear big over-the-ear headphones, you don’t want to end up looking like a Cyberman from Dr Who. Nuh-uh, no Sir. So, as a comic book geek, having the choice of Hulk, Wolverine, X-Men and Iron Man was like being offered all the sweets in the world. I opted for Hulk as I liked the idea of having the big Green machine pounding on my ears whilst I listened to the music.
Coloud are also available in Star Wars, Fame and, if you’re like, 12 years old and a girl, Hello Kitty. At £34.99 they’re not too expensive and they most certainly do their job. If you can look cool and enjoy your music instead of the banal chatting on the train home and not have to pay a shedload of money for it, you’re on the right track.

New Holy Fuck LP in May
Canadian noise mongers Holy Fuck will release a new album, Latin, on May 10th.
The hotly anticipated follow up to their 2007 breakthrough, LP, will be released through Young Turks in the UK.
The band announced the information through Chat Roulette, where the song is still streaming among various other NSFW webcam streams. Holy Fuck indeed.

Melissa Auf Der Maur will host a screening of her new film ‘Out of Our Minds’ at London’s ICA this April.
While Auf Der Maur might not have been invited along to Hole’s recent reunion, to say she has kept herself busy would be an understatement. Alongside the 28 minute film she will release a brand new solo album of the same name, a comic book, and curate gallery presentations around the release.
The screening, followed by a Q&A session, will take place on April 21st. Auf Der Maur will also play London’s Cargo on April 17th.
Eddy Grant is considering legal action having noticed similarities between recent Gorillaz single, Stylo, and his 1983 song, Time Warp.
Grant suggested that the keyboard section of the track is lifted from his own, and asserts that Damon Albarn is aware of the similarities. Grant later admitted that he has never met Albarn, despite earlier insisting that the singer “knows that this is a song he has loved…in his club days.”
EMI Publishing, who represent both artists, responded, “This is a private matter between Eddy Grant and Gorillaz, and we’re not intending to make any further comment.”
