Croydon’s Drawing Boards fascinate us here at Crossfire.
The reality of a skateboard company giving it their all from where we all grew up back in the 80’s at the Norwich Union banks and Fairfields was farfetched but now, this generation have it on their doorstep and it’s growing week by week.
It’s not the only reason that this zine gives Drawing Boards support though as heritage alone doesn’t warrant the links, the write up’s, the interviews and the time put in to rep skater owned and paid for operations with little distribution. This skateboard company is run from the heart, on pride and passion and most of all by the skill of the riders who rep it the most.
This week’s Fresh Blood feature welcomes the ever growing steez of one of those riders who lives for the session, Jerry Wilson. Look out for him on your travels.

Young Jerry Wilson is constantly progressing. We skate together a lot, the kid will just be cruising about doing his signature quirky moves and then bang outta nowhere he will start producing tricks I’ve never seen him do before. Either he’s got a secret training basement somewhere or he’s incredibly gifted. I’m going for the latter. Sometimes when we go out filming I will literally tell him to do something and he’s always like ” Aw … urm I’ll try , but probably won’t do it”. Next thing I know BLAM he’s done it with effortless style while I’m fumbling to get the fisheye out my bag.
When Jerry was little bug eyed nipper sponsorship and all that crap was the last thing on his mind, he was just out skating everyday with his band of miniature men come rain or shine. I’m well hyped to have Jerry repping Drawing Boards. He has all the good qualities needed to shine .. He’s talented, humble and got an unmistakable sick style to boot. But I’d rather not tell him to be honest.

After about a hour or so, a few beers and a can of strawberry cider, I felt ready to shoot a photo with Moose.
I had been eyeing up the gap from a little kicker over the bowl and into a little quarter, but as it was backside I just didn’t feel like it was for me, so I decided to just run as fast as I could and try and clear it to the flat.
This plan was going well besides the fact that the floor was a slippery as your mum’s kitchen when you are wearing socks and there were 3 pikey pre GCSE girls with a massive dog standing in my landing area. Never the less I managed to muster the speed and after almost hitting their dog they moved on and we were able to shoot it. – Martyn Thomas

So Tuesday was as hot as porridge and I had just found a gap in my work day. 2 words flashed before my eyes ‘Mile End‘ – a new concrete heaven that has recently popped up thanks to Gravity Skateparks. Now what better place and time to test the new Flip Geoff Rowley Ace deck that has landed on my desk.
The graphic is an ‘Ace of Spades‘ image and is pretty stoking if you ask me. I never buy boards for the graphic but I was really taken with this one, it’s simple and it has a skull on it which is usually a winner although the downside was that I had to grip it with a sugar spoon! And im talking proper pussy spoon, it had a coin on the handle with the queen on it!!! Double hard bastard I am!
So after I managed to complete a near impossible grip job much to the surprise of most of my friends, I finally got to skate a new board in a new park, oh and it was good! The board was a real joy to ride to be fair, I was a little doubtful of its performance simply because the shape was not what I was used to, the tail is surprisingly round and it kinda spun me out a bit every time I looked at it, but it skated really well and the pop was super nice. If anything the round tail just acted as a clear sign as to when I was riding it the wrong way!
The pop of this board was pretty impressive and made the gap fun to skate. It was also a good all rounder when it came to the ledges and rails, really sturdy wood, I felt I could really chuck it around without it cracking under my feet.
Hat’s off to Flip for releasing another super good pro deck from the UK’s finest.
