Only one winner here in the end, as the Lamb always gets his way in the end. Watch the beating he took for this one though.

Marseille Bowl comp footage 2013

The annual comp down in Marseille’s Prado Bowl is always one not to miss. It is arguably the best skatepark in the world, one to visit this summer if you are thinking about going somewhere different with friends. Head to Bud Skateshop and ask for Momo to get details of where to find spots.

Here’s a new edit (with awful music) from the most recent event with Greyson Fletcher absolutely annihilating for first place and a rock flip on the wall from Dannie Carlsen to cherish.

Spot Check: Adrenaline Alley building 2

adrenalinealley_building2

When a labour of love on this level is completed, it’s wise to doff your hat to the people involved, so raise a glass today to another impressive build in the UK that will provide plenty of sessions in the future to so many. We are talking about the new second building that has now been opened at Adrenaline Alley in Corby, Northamptonshire. Predominantly for bikes, but a hell ride for those who like to shred the big stuff on four wheels.

When this park originally launched, it boasted the biggest resi vert ramp in the UK, a sick bowl and a street course that was deemed good enough for a UK Champs event. Back then, in January 2008, we shot some footage with Sean Goff, Alex Hallford, Dave Allen and more, but like all great skateparks, the Alley moved forwards despite the usual pressures of funding and has always delivered something special to its visitors. Those who would have seen this feature that we ran covering the plaza room build that Four One Four designed and built will remember that this work was yet another step forward for the Corby locals, and now here in 2013, once again, they have delivered a challenging new area, in a new building, that has raised eyebrows once again.

We spoke to Four One Four’s Trevor Johnson this week to get his take on how this monstrous feat managed to come together. Take it in, enjoy these photos and plan a day out there soon.

“After a two long years of planning, over 1300 sheets of ply, 26 saw blades, 160,000 plus screws, Four One Four Skateparks are proud to announce Adrenaline Alley’s building 2 is now a reality and a super rad one too! We are stoked to have had the opportunity to accomplish this huge feat of creating this benchmark flowing skatepark! Although this building is primarily BMX oriented, this park shreds like a gooden on a board too! Nothing is small in this place which means speed is key, but we have made sure that the layout was designed so there are as many lines as possible with the right amount of flat bottom to steer you to where you wanna go. Get over there to check it out for yourselves and expect big things at Adrenaline Alley as we plan to make Building 1 as good as this in it’s own right.”

Grant Hart live at the Water Rats, London

Grant Hart
w/ Thirty Six Strategies
June 18, 2013
Water Rats, London

Ph: Steve Cotton

Grant Hart

Considering Thirty Six Strategies’ brand of melodic rock pays a healthy respect to the generation of eighties US punks that spawned bands such as Dag Nasty and Husker Du, they must be pretty chuffed to be sharing a stage with the legend that is Grant Hart. And with less than five shows under their belts, their confidence is impressive but understandable because between them they feature ex-members of UK bands such as Shutdown, Decadence Within and Stamping Ground, so it’s no surprise they know their chops. Their first release is due soon on Boss Tuneage Records – check it out.

Grant Hart last played Water Rats back in December of 2011 to an audience far smaller then he deserves – this is a man who wrote some of the greatest songs to ever come out of the fertile US eighties musical underground, but his life took a very different path to that of his once song writing partner Bob Mould, who achieved enormous success in the wake of the post Nirvana underground music explosion with his band Sugar. The path that Grant took is written all over his face, but he’s survived and lived to tell the tale – stories that are contained within all of his songs.

His last set here back in 2011 was played solo, just Grant and his songs – fragile and brittle and amazing. Tonight, however, he returns with a new band, a record deal with Domino and a new album due in August. The first thing you notice as Grant and his band take the stage is just how young his supporting (Irish) musicians are. From the slightly panicked look on their faces, they’ve not played many gigs together but as the set builds and Grant leads the band through a selection of tracks from the forthcoming double album ‘The Argument’, they begin to sound more confident with each passing song. And by the time they roar through a majestic ‘She Floated Away’ – possibly the best song on the last Husker Du album ‘Warehouse Songs…’, the band hit their stride and provide simple but powerful backing to Hart’s distinctive songs. ‘Is The Sky The Limit’ is a highlight from the new album, but it’s the Husker Du songs that obviously command the biggest response and when Grant returns alone to run through acoustic versions of ‘Flexible Flyer’, ‘Never Talking To You Again’ and ‘The Girl Who Lives On Heaven Hill’ you know you are in the presence of a genius song-writer.

Grant Hart is the real deal, operating outside of the mainstream – an outsider with cult appeal that hopefully will finally start to get the recognition he deserves.
