Muse to play environmental gig?

Muse have been invited to play a major concert to raise awareness of global warning.

Reports are that Al Gore is backing this concert following his Oscar-nominated film An Inconvenient Truth.

Muse drummer Dom Howard said “We’ve been asked. I think it will happened in seven continents around the world, all on the 7 July” and added that a lot of bands would be playing.

Muse recently won the award for Best British Live Act at the Brits this week.

Cornell quits Audioslave

Chris Cornell has left Audioslave according to reports.

A statement was issued saying the former Soundgarden singer had quit due to “irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences”. He is thought to be planning on gearing up his solo career, with a new solo album, Carry On, being released in the States on may 1st.

His former bandmates, Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk are of course reuniting with Zack de la Rocha as Rage Against The Machine for Coachella.

New QOTSA album news

Queens Of The Stone Age have revealed details of their new album.

The follow up to 2005’s Lullabies To Paralyze will be called Era Vulgaris, according to a bulletin the band posted on MySpace.

The group have said that songs that will be included would be Into The Hollows, Sick, Sick, Sick, Misfit Love and Battery Acid.

The posting went on to say: “Could be song titles. Or could not…go sign up on the mailing list for future insider info. Then get off the internet and go get laid, it’s Valentines Day.”

Wolfmother to play Download

Download festival has also announced its line up for 2007.

Wolfmother, Slayer, Bring Me The Horizon, Killswitch Engage and Marilyn Manson are the latest acts to be confirmed for this year’s event.

The festival has already announced My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park and Iron Maiden as headliners on the bill which will take place at Donnington Park from June 8th-10th.

ATP line up latest

The Dirty Three curated All Tomorrow’s Parties’ line up has been revealed.

The event, which will take place at Minehead’s Butlins on April 27th-29th, will see Nick Cave headline with a solo performance.

The line up will also include Papa M, Low, Felix Lajko, Brokeback, A Silver Mt Zion, Devastations, Cat Power, Joanna Newsom, Yann Tiersen, Roscoe Mitchell and more.

CSS on the remix tip

CSS will be lining up a remix for The Mules.

The Brazilian hipsters who are everybody’s favourite group right now will remix the British band’s track We’re The Good People.

The remix will appear on the B-side of the single which is due out on March 26th. The single will be preceded by their debut album Save Your Face which has a March 12th release.

James Yorkstone brings out new EP

James Yorkston will be releasing a new EP this March.

Woozy With Cider will hit the shops on March 12th, the original version of which appears on his third album, Year Of The Leopard.

Woozy With Cider is a spoken word piece and the EP is going to be available on 12″ and 7″ vinyl as well as download formats. The 7″ will feature Sunday Jacket with the 12″ featuring remixes of the track.

Brit Awards winners!

The Brit Awards took place last night with Arctic Monkeys and The Killers both taking two awards each.

Arctic Monkeys picked up Best British Album and Best British Group whilst The Killers beat off competition from Gnarls Barkley and Scissor Sisters to win Best International Album and Best International Group. James Morrison was voted Best Male Solo Artist with Amy Winehouse picking up the Female equivalent.

Radio 1 listeners picked out The Fratellis as the Best British Breakthrough Act, ahead of Lily Allen, Corinne Bailey Rae, James Morrison and The Kooks, whilst Orson were named Best International Breakthrough Act.

Other winners included Muse [Best British Live Act], Take That [Best British Single], Justin Timberlake [Best Internatioanl Male Solo Artist] and Nelly Furtado [Best International Female Solo Artist]. Manchester’s Oasis picked up the Outstanding Contribution To Music award.
