Perry Farrell launches new label

Perry Farrell has launched a new label.

The Jane’s Addiction frontman will release Satellite Party’s Ultra Payloaded album on the Bells Are Ringing label. Farrell formed the label to gain more financial control and artistic freedom and went on to say:

“I’m very excited to become part of this new independent trend where artists will have more creative freedom, make higher profits on the sales of their music and most of all it allows me, the artist, to own my art, my masters.”

Pennie leaves The Automatic

Pennie has left The Automatic.

The keyboard player and backing singer announced his departure earlier this week citing his growing apart from the rest of the band and the last year being “increasingly unenjoyable” as reasons for leaving.

The rest of the band will continue on and plan to fly to the States for the recording of the 2nd album soon.

The Pigeon Detectives

Exploding onto the scene with last year’s ‘Romantic Type‘ Leeds indie-maestros The Pigeon Detectives build on the success of ‘I’m Not Sorry’ with a punchy, up beat night out anthem ‘Take Her Back’.

Debating age gaps and whether 22 years old guy can take a 31 year old or a teenager home, the 5 piece have successfully recreated the successful formula of their previous singles, with choppy guitars, shouty vocals and tongue in cheek lyrics.

Whilst it slides easily into the realms of predictability, there’s no denying the lads from Leeds have hit on the right blueprint for another indie/pop hit, and this’ll only help raise their profile even more. With a UK tour including 3 night stand at The Kentish Town Forum heading towards selling out, it seems there’s no stopping them. Resistance is futile…

New Ween album!

A new Ween album is on the horizon.

La Cucaracha contains 13 tracks and is the first full length album from the group in 4 years. Speaking on the album, Dean Ween said:

“The album kicks ass, I’m not really sure what else to say about it other than I really can’t wait for it’s release. There’s not a wasted minute of music on there. We wrote and recorded a ton of material before we whittled it down to it’s present state. I really, I mean really can’t wait for you guys to hear it. I think you’re gonna be floored.”

There are also rumours that Ween will be playing live in Europe in 2008, so keep those fingers crossed.

Fugazi chitter chatter

Brendan Canty of Fugazi has spoken out about the band’s hiatus.

In an interview with Billboard, the drummer said that Fugazi was always supposed to function at full speed, and when they got to the point of functioning at quarter speed, it stopped feeling like Fugazi. He went on to say that if the time ever came around when it felt right to do another Fugazi record, they would, adding:

“We’ve turned down a lot of money in the past to do things we weren’t comfortable with. Fugazi would get together to play Maxwell’s. We wouldn’t get together to play Coachella. No amount of money would get us out of our houses.”
