Download: AWOLNATION Remix ft. Wale

Californian electronic indie rockers AWOLNATION are currently setting fire to the London club circuit on a series of live dates to celebrate both Guy Fawkes’ Night and the release of their debut EP ‘Back From Earth‘, which features the definitive pyromaniac tune ‘Burn It Down‘.

The video for ‘Burn It Down’ made its way online recently and features an appearance from DJ Samantha Ronson, who has remixed another EP track ‘Guilty Filthy Soul‘ with acclaimed Washington rapper Wale.

Premo and Royce Da 5’9 hit London

DJ Premier and Royce Da 5’9 are hitting the capital in December.

A legendary producer and DJ, Premo can call on his work as a beatsmith with Gangstarr and his bangers for Jay-Z, Big L, KRS-One, Biggie, Rakim, Nas and many, many more for what is sure to be a killer set.

Royce, the Detroit rapper that’s part of Slaughterhouse, gained his well-earned rep with Boom, a track produced by Premier, and is famous for his high-energy sets. The duo will be playing London’s Fabric nightclub on December 2nd.

With sets from Nick Javas, Prose, DJ 279 and the ever-amusing Mystro on hosting duties, it’s definitely one not to miss. Grab your tickets here.

Funeral For A Friend post new video!

After some line-up changes and instrument switch-arounds, the influential Welsh rockers Funeral For A Friend released a limited edition EP The Young and Defenceless last month as a prelude to their as yet untitled fifth studio album that is due out early next year.

The opening track, Serpents In Solitude, is now accompanied by a video that makes pretty good viewing. Make of it what you will, but be sure to watch it…

Kyuss to reunite for European tour

It has been announced that the legendary stoner rock group Kyuss will be reuniting for a European tour, but original guitarist Josh Homme will unsurprisingly not be involved.

John Garcia, Nick Olivieri and Brant Bjork will be joined by Bruno Fevery and perform a string of 25 dates next year under the name Kyuss Lives. This includes three UK dates at the following venues…

March 31st – Rock City, Nottingham
April 1st – Wulfrun Hall, Wolverhampton
April 2nd – The Forum, London

Scotland Yard cop inserted song titles into testimony


Amazing news broke today that a Scotland Yard marksman deliberately inserted song titles into his verbal testimony whilst giving evidence under oath to the inquest of the shooting of Mark Saunders on September 27.

High ranking rozzers responded to this farce today saying “The Met takes this matter extremely seriously as we expect the highest standards of all of our staff. The officer has been removed from operational firearms duty.”

Whilst Scotland Yard work out exactly what tracks Officer AZ8 included in his speech for fun, we though that we would bring you 3 tracks that could have been in his play list. Comment below on what others we could have included.

Beans preps new album for Anticon

Beans of legendary leftfield hip-hop act Antipop Consortium has announced that he will be releasing a new album in 2011 through the similarly abstract and forward-thinking label Anticon.

End It All is due to be released on February 15th 2011. Perhaps the most exciting news surrounding this release is the impressive roster of collaborative artists that appear on the record. These include Tobacco, Four Tet, Clark, Interpol’s Sam Fogarino, Nobody, Son Lux and Bumps.

Keith Morris (Black Flag/Circle Jerks) goes OFF!

Keith Morris, that dreaded shouty bloke famed for his sterling vocal work at the beginning of Black Flag’s finest hours and singing in Circle Jerks is back in a new hardcore band called OFF!

Alongside him in this project are other veteran players famed for their roles within classic bands made up of Dimitri Coates (Burning Brides), Steven Shane McDonald (Redd Kross) and Mario Rubalcaba (Rocket From The Crypt, Hot Snakes). The results are straight up, 1 minute long tracks played fast with a classic 80’s hardcore sound.

Taste some of OFF! from the video below with some mini ramp skating in it and look out for the release on Vice Records titled The First 4 EP’s boxset which includes a limited edition Raymond Pettibon poster on November 23rd.

Track of the Day: Mary Epworth – Black Doe

We thought that this track from Mary Epworth and the Jubilee Band would be a fitting start to the week following Mary’s live show at a Cecil Sharp House for the Halloween Music Fair last night.

This amazing track titled Black Doe was released on 7″ in late 2009 on Hand Of Glory was written about looking into the eyes of a deer and brings sun rays dosed in psychedelic charm. If you are a fan of Velvet Underground, Ganglians and Black Mountain then check this out and look out for news of her debut album coming soon.

Mogwai announce new album

Mogwai have taken their typically awesome song titles to the album itself as they announce that their new album ‘Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will‘ will be released on February 14th 2011 through Rock Action Records.

The tracklisting alone looks promising, but then the Scottish noise and melody blenders have yet to put out anything that hasn’t won us over.The limited edition version of the CD will feature 26 minute long piece called ‘The Singing Mountain’ recorded for Douglas Gordon and Olaf Nicolai’s ‘Monument for Forgotten Future’ installation in Essen, Germany.
