Keith Richards goes clean

Stones’ guitarist Keith Richards has claimed to have quit drugs, saying they aren’t as strong as they used to be. Richards, who had brain surgery this year after falling out of a tree, told Q magazine that he thinks the quality has gone downhill and that he didn’t like how drugs worked through the brain nowadays instead of the blood stream.

However, he did enjoy the morphine he had whilst in hospital saying:

“I did try to squeeze a little bit more out of the night nurse. She was very accommodating.”

New Eminem release

Eminem will be releasing a new mix cd, The Re-Up, and has denied that it was intended to be a tribute to his recently deceased friend Proof.

The album will feature a load of guests including 50 Cent, Mobb Deep, Nas, Lloyd Banks, Snoop and Obie Trice. Eminem explained that the material was being produced as if for a normal studio album so they added some new tracks, mixed it so it didn’t sound like a rough cut and put it out in stores.

He added that a new D12 album and unreleased Proof tracks will be released in due time. The Re-Up will be out in early December.

Chuck D mobile warning

Public Enemy’s Chuck D has warned artists of the world to keep a close eye on the big companies that are investing in online and mobile content platforms. He also warned the majors that the expansion of mobile music is going to have a huge impact on the part they play in music space. He also pointed to the fact the original digital revolution is moving to mobile phones as “the next step”. Whilst being happy that the internet and mobiles give artists the chance to get their music out without having to go through a middleman, he was wary of Murdoch’s buyout of myspace.

He finished by saying he’ll “always tip his hate to rebels”, when asked about hacking of computers. Chuck’s own mobile venture offers ringtones, videos and other hip hop content, and allows emerging artists to put their content out to people’s mobile phones.
