Thrice album details

Thrice frontman Dustin Kensrue recently spoke to VH1 about the band’s upcoming quadruple album, saying they were about halfway through the writing and recording of the record.

The collection will be called The Elements and each album will be 30 minutes long and self-produced, called Earth, Air, Water and Fire and hope to have them out by the end of this year. Kensrue is also supporting a solo album. Of the Thrice record, he said:

“It’s definitely a daunting task, and I think we’re starting to realize that now, since we’re not in the beginning phases anymore. It’s a lot of fun and a serious challenge for us, which is what we’re always looking for. This record’s different than what would have been just the next Thrice record, being it has these themes that we’re trying to hit.

It allows for things that wouldn’t have happened on an old Thrice record. We have this one song that’s sort of a bluesy jazz standard, and there wouldn’t have been space for something like that on any of our other records. But we have the freedom to do it here, and it fits.”

Killswitch Engage update

Killswitch Engage‘s cancellations of UK shows at the last minute recently were because guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz had to be rushed to hospital for emergency surgery on his back.

The band issued the following statement regarding the events:

“Following months of recuperation after previous back surgery for a herniated disc, Adam had been touring in the USA with little to no incident, but after a week of shows in the UK, the guitarist found himself suffering increasing back pain, spending the time before and after shows lying flat with a bag of ice on his lower back, in an effort to continue touring.

To make matters worse, vocalist Howard Jones was suffering from a chest infection. After a series of tests in hospital, Adam was informed his back injury was so severe, he could definitely not continue the European tour, nor fly home – and would in fact need urgent surgery. Killswitch Engage had no choice but to postpone their shows in London, Bristol, and Paris while a Plan B was devised. Naturally, the band were worried about Adam and extremely disappointed he would not be able to finish the tour”.

Plan B is to bring in former Soilwork guitarist Peter Wichers, whilst Dutkiewicz recovers from his surgery. London’s gig will now be on January 29th with the Bristol show’s rescheduled date is to be confirmed.

Johnny Cash gospel record incoming

A collection of “the most in-depth collection of Cash’s gospel recordings ever assembled” will be released in the US on March 6th.

Johnny Cash frequently performed gospel songs live, and apparently left his original label, Sun Records, because they wouldn’t allow him to perform gospel songs.

There will be traditional gospel songs on the record as well as Cash originals such as “The Preacher Said ‘Jesus Said'”.
