Southbank video updates

Us older skaters who congregated traditionally on Wednesday nights for sessions down at Southbank in the late 1980s will always cherish the history of what the Undercroft has banked over the years, but what about today’s generation? If you have attended Crossfire events over the years you would probably recognise 15 year old Reuben Russo who also skates Southbank regularly. This week LLSB discuss his views on why relocation of the Undercroft is not first choice for the current skateboarders of London’s most prestigious skate spot in a new video highlighting the questions that they believe the SBC should be asking.

Right now the Southbank Centre are moving forwards with their plans to design the new Hungerford Bridge space regardless of the campaign to stop the relocation. Planning permission is currently being saught to develop the new skate site and the upgraded original building.

The last consultation meeting (filmed below) was hosted by Iain Borden (Professor of Architecture and Urban Culture at the Bartlett School of Architecture) and Rich Holland (CIDE Skateshop/Side Effects of Urethane/Architectural designer at Floda31) and the new designer chosen to plan out the new space. That man is Danish skater Søren Nordal Enevoldsen from SNE Architects who has background in building skateable spaces in urban environments in Europe.

Halloween skate video round up 2013

Halloween is always the best excuse to get dressed up for a session and this year’s events were rolled out one by one bang on time. Here’s a round up of some of the best edits out there that made the cut.

Thrasher’s Diamond Mine session went off with TNT, Gregson, Raybourn, Fletcher and co.

The Majer Crew upped their game from last year’s super hero fest. Enjoy Miley Cyrus crushing her balls.

Marseille locals lit up the Prado Bowl on the French coast.

Bucky Lasek’s backyard bowl got rinsed by Bob Burnquist, PLG, Darren Navarette and many more.

Tempe Park in Arizona Tempe Park was paid a visit by Andrew Cannon, Ryan Reyes, Preston Harper, Ryan Lay, and more.

The Skateboard Cafe repped Bristol with Shaun Currie, Josh Arnott, Korahn Gayle, Louis Marshall and more featuring in Rich Smith’s edit.

The Campus Skatepark in Bristol opened their doors for a Jam. James Harris came back with this footage.

Halloween at Burnside went down like this…

The Gonz, Cab, Navarette, Jason Jessee, Smolik, and Jamie Thomas joined the likes of Richie Jackson, Rob Welsh, Jordan Taylor, Slash, Nestor Judkins, Deerman Of Dark Woods, Richard Angelides, Daniel Haney, and Jason Voorhees for a session at the TWS TF.

Fourstar Winter beanies

If the last 48 hours are anything to go by temperature wise, the deep freeze is definitely about to kick in here in the UK as the Autumn makes way for winter. Fourstar have a selection of beanies this season that should assist with dealing with the onslaught of freezing winds.

They sent us a couple of Traid Fold Beanies (above) to check out last week which did not disappoint. Made of Acrylic fibre with a mohair wool look, these beanies are thick like fisherman’s hats but not wool so they will not overheat your head whilst skating. They are also super soft to the touch and do the job perfectly. Alternatively their Slub Bar Fold Beanie has a simple but effective look and feel. Hunt them down in your local skater owned shop.

Crossfire Halloween Massacre 2013 gallery

Once again, this year’s Crossfire Halloween Massacre in association with Vans did not disappoint.

This boat party was held on the Thames at the Battersea Barge who we have to apologise to after Nottingham’s incendiary device Baby Godzilla incited a full scale riot on board the good ship. People hanging from the rafters and bodies flying everywhere destroyed cables that led to a surge of electricity and shorted the boat’s power supply. Sparks flew as a result and thankfully nobody was hurt but the party was shut down for a while whilst everyone gained consciousness and clarity.

“It was the most ridiculous gig we’ve ever played, possibly ever been to,” said Baby Godzilla frontman Matt Reynolds. “The crowd literally ripped the place apart and they pulled the plug on us after 4 songs due to concerns about how much boat would remain at the end. Utterly insane and a thing of absolute fucking beauty.”

Before Baby Godzilla’s electrifying four song set, Lags from Gallows and Matt Stocks brought the dance floor alive with ghoulish rock sets to a packed house.

Bex and Kylie (ex Sweet Dreams) upped the pace once we were allowed to switch the music on after a 45 minute shut down with a plethora of slamming hip hop and party classics leaving Rout and SGT Rolfy from the Shikari Sound System to smash the dried blood stains off the crowd with a blend of upbeat electronica until time was called. What a night of it.

“Crossfire’s Massacre was a raucous night of debauchery as always,” confirmed Enter Shikari’s Rob Rolfe. “Baby Godzilla tore the place apart, literally! There were fantastic outfits, big tunes and sore heads all round the next morning; it was a truly splendid occasion!”

Thanks to everyone who came out for this party, it was a riot! Big up to Vans for their support and everyone involved in making it another successful night out. Until next year, enjoy and share the gallery courtesy of our good friend Beth Crockatt.
