Gorillaz post new track!

After an enormous year for Damon Albarn’s infinite music-making collective, Gorillaz have posted a new track online that’s due for release on November 22nd.

The virtual band, whose sound is defined by how frequently they explore new territory and collaborate with a variety of artists old and new continues to cover new ground as they bring in British RnB newcomer Daley for lead vocal duties on ‘Doncamatic (All Played Out)‘. The track borrows its name from a 1960s Japanese drum machine and you can hear it below.

The group have also posted a storyboard video for Plastic Beach track ‘Rhinestone Eyes‘, which you can also see below.

Ted Schmitz on Heath Kirchart

We recently conducted a little interview with Heath Kirchart about his retirement from filming professional parts, and though it’s more or less impossible to learn too much about the enigma it doesn’t stop people from trying. Ted Schmitz is the latest to try and get into the head of Heath, quite literally by mimicking his Stay Gold part.

Watch below as he tries to decipher the enigma in the most amusing way possible for Roger Skateboards.

DVS Coen Euro Trash – Mark Baines

Back in my schooldays Euro Trash was the kind of filth we talked about during lunch on the playground. This was before the internet made tits and arse easy-viewing and some tacky bits of tail on Channel 4 was a great deal more exciting that the Clarks Bootleg shoes on our feet. Now, we live in a much more mature world where filth can be saved for private evenings online and the talk of the streets is instead what’s on our feet. And in some sort of ying yang twist, what we’re talking about at lunch here is still Euro Trash, just this one is a little bit more tasteful.

The DVS Coen model has been remixed by the illustrious Mark Baines, whose colourway is smart, simple and carries a lot more visual appeal than those that featured in the garish sets of TV shows long gone. Foolishly, I was under the impression that by wearing these shoes I would instantly be able to do nollie frontside heelflips just like Mr. Baines. But magic is obviously just a childhood dream inspired by the sleazy French presenter’s promise of nipples and bums. I wasn’t too put off. What we actually want, are solid shoes, worthy of our cash money. The Coen is such a shoe. It’s not too bulky, it boasts a sweet navy suede upper, it lasts a lot longer than the trendy vulcs that normally hang off my feet and it’s just straight up reliable.

So save the filth for online. Get these kicks on and go skating outside you trashy euro bastards.

Dick Bastardly

Watch Baines do nollie frontside heels and more better than you can below in his part from the Euro segment of DVS’ ‘Dudes, Dudes, Dudes‘.

Bring Me The Horizon – Live

Bring Me The Horizon
with The Ghost Of A Thousand and Tek One
London Garage, 01.10.10

You would’ve thought that now it’s getting a bit chillier, the notoriously sweaty Garage might prove to be slightly less of a sweatbox. No such luck when a line-up such as tonight’s packs the venue to the rafters with eager bodies. Bring Me The Horizon are bringing their purposely-small-venue UK tour to a close in London tonight. The fact that this band could sell out this venue possibly as many as ten times over makes tonight quite the occasion. The line-up tonight also includes metal’s dubstep darlings Tek-One – complete with hype man and Brighton’s The Ghost of A Thousand.

During Tek-One’s bass-heavy set, I can actually feel my eyelashes vibrating. The wob is overwhelming but enhanced by the live drumming and the rather exuberant hyping up of the crowd. Unsurprisingly, the crowd is most hyped when BMTH’s Oli Sykes appears on stage for a Tek-One remix of one of their tracks. The sweaty affair continues with The Ghost of A Thousand. Some of the assembled crowd seem a little bemused by the rock’n’roll-tinged punk-rock TGOAT bring to the table but the band manage to get the majority of the room moving with their crafty riffs and top-notch drumming skills.

And now to the main event. The evening seems to have passed by pretty quickly so far and Bring Me The Horizon’s set continues that theme. It’s not particularly short in length but its brilliance means it feels short. The only new tracks included in the set – ‘Fuck’ and single ‘It Never Ends’ – from the band’s elaborately-titled third album ‘There Is A Hell Believe Me I’ve Seen It, There Is a Heaven Let’s Keep It A Secret’ are received with every bit as much enthusiasm as the anthemic ‘The Comedown’, ‘Football Season Is Over’ and ‘Chelsea Smile’. ‘Fuck’ puts guitarist Jona’s vocal skills to the test with some serious melodies (sung by You Me At Six’s Josh Franceschi on the album) which he carries off with ease. This crowd is just as loud and pick up any lyrics Oli leaves out or points the mic at them for. Most people are pretty much singing / shouting along for the entirety of the set.

With their new album thrown into the mix, Bring Me The Horizon now have a rather large pool of ridiculously good material to pull from in a live setting. This is only going to make for more and more exciting live sets in the future. And it’s not like they were ever a band to be boring in the first place.

Download: new Avey Tare

Animal Collective’s Avey Tare will be releasing the crocodile inspired album Down There on October 25th through Paw Tracks. But for a little taster of what to expect from an album that was recorded in an abandoned church in a swamp you can download the lead single ‘Lucky 1‘ for free below.

It’s squishy, squashy, sloshy, swishy, swampy and pretty much exactly like what you’d expect great music to sound like if it was recorded in an abandoned church in a swamp by someone fascinated by crocodiles.
