Most unsurprising news of the year – Jay Z has come out of retirement. After releasing The Black Album, Jay had intended to stop recording studio albums and since then he’d become President and CEO of Def Jam, bought a slice in a basketball team, appeared on numerous artists’ albums and gone on a massive tour of the globe.
His new album is due this year and will be called Kingdom Come. The record will feature beats from Dr Dre, Kanye, Timbaland and even Coldplay’s Chris Martin will be up on the deal. It’s great to have him back… even though he was never really gone.
A tribute album to Nirvana is going to be released, but not just any tribute album, this will feature lullaby versions of the band’s tracks. The album will be put out by Babyrock Records and they have described it like this:
“Lullaby renditions of Nirvana’s best-loved songs turn the volume way down, while turning up the dreaminess of their pop hooks. In many ways, this album echoes the simple pleasures and innocence of infancy and childhood. Childish tra-la-la’s tempered the distortion of Nirvana’s own songs. The band with one of the longest names ever, And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, have announced details of their forthcoming album. The record will be titled So Divided and will be released on November 13th and will include a guest spot for Dresden Dolls’ Amanda Palmer. The tracklisting is:

Ludicra have come out of the studio with their new full length, Fex Urbis Lex Orbis, in hand. The group are ready to unleash it onto the unsuspecting world with their own brand of screamy sludge metal and with a release date of October 31st, you know they won’t be messing around.
A new punk exhibition is being planned to celebrate next year’s 30th anniversary of the explosion of the music. The event will be called Panic Attack and will be held at the Barbican Centre in London from June 7th to September 9th next year.
It will feature artwork and related exhibits of groups like The Clash and the Sex Pistols. Stick it in your diaries now people.
