Avril being sued

Pointless chump Avril Lavigne is being sued by a songwriting team.

Tommy Dunbar of The Rubinoos said that the Canadian warbling machine’s track Girlfriend is a rip off of their 1978 track I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend and are suing the co-writer of Girlfriend, Dr. Luke and Avril’s publishing company.

Why anyone would want to admit that their music sounds like her toss is beyond us, but here’s hoping they rinse her for a load of cash anyway.

Southsea skatepark needs your help

This comes direct from the UKSA, and is definitely not what you want to be hearing on a Friday morning. Lend a hand, show your support, and don’t let another skatepark fall off the map. Read on:

“The future of Southsea skatepark is looking uncertain. The local council are preparing to close the park in September of this year unless a suitable plan can be made in conjunction with a private party that would need to take over the lease of the facilities. A private party with the full support of current skatepark users has approached the council and their business plan was rejected due to out-dated views expressed by council members as to the usage and potential user groups associated with the park.

The users of the park; skateboarders, bmx and inline have united to form a user group that will hopefully convince the council that these facilities are a necessary part of the local community and that the park is unique and an investment in the future of all active members of the public young and old.

The Southsea Skatepark Users Group will be posting/have posted (by the time this appears in print) an online petition that you can access via the Bored skate shop website at www.boredofsouthsea.co.uk

Please add your support if you use the park, have ever used the park or if you value a genuine piece of British skate heritage and the right to campaign for adequate facilities for the present and future.

There will be various events throughout August which the Southsea Skatepark Users Group will post notice of on the various skate forums but regardless of this there has never been a more important time to visit the park. Go shred…

Cheers,

The United Kingdom Skateboarding Association”

Ain’t Talking ‘Bout Love

Eddie Van HalenThe rumour mill is working overtime today, but it looks like the stories of Val Halen reforming for a tour with David Lee Roth are finally true.

The band now consisting of David Lee Roth, Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen and Eddie’s son Wolfgang Van Halen have apparently started planning dates for a US tour in September, although nothing official has been said yet.

In February, with huge hype surrounding them, the band called off their previously planned reunion tour and also cancelled their performance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Only because in true rock ‘n’ roll fashion, Eddie had to go to rehab for a month for his drinking problems.

In a related note, we used to prank call people by playing “Jump” down the phone to them. A friend’s dad once listened to the whole song before saying “Kev, is that you?”

Skateboarding Product Reviews

Enjoi – Jason Adams (Bratrud Artwork)

I’ve always been a fan of Enjoi decks, well, as enthusiastic about them as I could be considering I had never actually stepped on one. Enjoi adverts never fail in making me guffaw whole heartedly, and I’m sure you’ll agree that Bag Of Suck was a video that mashed the barrier between pissing around and genuinely epic skateboarding perfectly. Plus I was always overly partial to that Jerry Hsu deck that did the rounds last year, the one with kittens and rainbows on it. If I weren’t so reckless with my money I happily would have indulged in 5 of them. But then, that would be equally as reckless as what I spent my money on instead. Ah well.

One paragraph and 124 words into this review, and I haven’t even mentioned the deck that I had the pleasure to take on a test drive around the newly laid concrete in Essex. No, not Saffron Walden, that’s far too mainstream. In true Enjoi style, I took this deck to a new crete park in Grays, consisting of a quarter pipe with coping the size of a trombone, and this horrid tarmac floor that sucks you in like quicksand. It’s already claimed the lives of four local groms. Probably because they’re abec rating was too low. Anyway. Considering I had put Enjoi on a pedestal, I was really eager to see how the deck played its role. I was stoked to find out that it was more than just a useless wooden toy.

What struck me first is it’s absurdly lightweight construction. Such a contrast from my last two decks, which seemed bulky and soggy, and made skateboarding more of a chore. This beauty put the fun back into zipping around parks, without having to lift the weight of a thousand planets to get onto a ledge. The resin 7 epoxy construction makes it more stable than so solid crew too, and helping it stay as light as it should be.

It has a tidy mellow concave, and keeps a good relationship with your feet throughout your ride. No awkwardness in getting used to a bizarre shape, just hop on and go. Cracking. And while it doesn’t have pictures of kittens and rainbows, the artwork by Todd Bratrud is pretty fucking rad anyway. Well, what’s left of it.

Overall, a great deck that didn’t disappoint at all, and makes the sound of buying 5 of them a lot more sensible that I would have thought. Shame that Jason Adams has done the offs though..

9/10
