Sonic Youth plan new album

Sonic Youth have confirmed they are to release a new album next year.

The band performed 2 new songs – James Run Free and Cool Thing – during a show on Friday and Thurston Moore commented afterwards that they are looking to begin writing the follow up to Rather Ripped this spring saying:

“We haven’t gotten together in about four months, we’ve been taking a nice sort of break, which is good. I’ve been actually able to escape into the basement. We’re going to Australia next week for about two weeks then we’ll come back and start writing.”

Les Savy Fav performed a riotous warm up gig in Bedford on Saturday.

The New Yorkers played to an audience of just 150, playing a 70 minute set that saw frontman Tim Harrington coming to the stage dressed as a sailor, before changing into a hippy for the encore and explored the ladies toilets with a fan’s camcorder.
