Dinosaur Pile-Up
Dinosaur Pile-Up are one in a seemingly very long string of frankly awesome bands emerging from Leeds at the moment.
Having inspired the slightly horrific but probably quite accurate title ‘nu-grunge’, their filthy guitars and power ball bass lines have been rocking the Crossfire stereo for some time. Now their new EP, brilliantly titled ‘The Most Powerful EP in the Universe‘ has just been released on the band’s own label Friends vs Records and showcases the band’s love for two of the finer things in life – the unholy riff and a whopping great melody. We can’t get enough of it!
With their own Wayne’s World style youtube channel (click HERE) now launched, Reading & Leeds performances just around the corner and their debut album still a mere speck on the horizon, things are definitely looking promising. Watch this space for our interview with the band coming very soon!

New Skateboard Graphics kicks off with a foreword written by Michael Leon from Rasa Libre and from there onwards on it is jam packed with over 400 illustrations and graphics from a range of artists including our very own Mark ‘Fos’ Foster, to Jason Adams, Evan Hecox, Mark Gonzales, Ed Templeton and many many more. You are also treated to interviews with various heads that also include Jamie Thomas, Yogi Procter and Michael Irving.
This book features tonnes of deck art from various company spotlights covering Girl and Heroin to Alai and Zero and even looks back to recent skate companies that had amazing product but are now defunct such as Popwar and Bueno.
Every time you turn a page in this mammoth piece of work you are reminded of the decks you have seen over the years, reminiscing on the times you had shredding, sitting in skate shops watching vids, applying your griptape and such. But the beauty of this book is the fact that all the decks that are featured are fairly new. It’s not the usual look back into the world of classic graphics of the 80’s, it’s not a retrospective on the amazing art of one or two famous skate graphic artists, it does what it says on the tin.

For the four individuals present in this recent thriller, The Killing Room, signing up for a psychological research programme leads to them being subjects of a brutal, modern day version of the Project MKULTRA; a secret mind-control/chemical program that used a variety of methods, such as murder, to manipulate an individual’s mental state and brain function, monitoring their responses.
As the film commences, director Jonathan Liebesman instantly demonstrates what he can do. With such a tough exterior the film has a few jolts, firstly with a death scene. This, among a few others, is a moment that literally makes you jump out of your seat and your heart pound twice as fast as it should. When the onscreen characters get as stressed out as you with what they are seeing and experiencing, it stops your attention from dissipating from the screen. As the individuals begin to lose their minds, their sense of reality and all hope they will make it out of the room alive, you can really sense the destruction, the fright and terror building within the confinements of the room they are placed. Since the majority of the film is shot in an enclosed clinical medical unit, with the four individuals placed under a wide microscope with others viewing from outside, there is a sense of claustrophobia emitted, confinement and no way of escape.
As attempts to escape the room fail the individuals must play along with the games of the research leader. With themes having some likeness to Saw; trapped in a room with little method of escape as well as violence, shocks, and bidding farewell to the family, The Killing Room is an essential DVD for anyone one who wants to experience a terrorising voyage into the claustrophobic world of forbidden psychological experiments.

Nirvana re-release imminent
Nirvana‘s Bleach will get a re-release on Sub Pop to mark its 20th anniversary.
A remastered and expanded double CD is being put together that will include an unreleased live recording of the band’s gig in Portland in February 1990, which includes a cover of Molly’s Lips. There will also be a 16 page booklet with unreleased photos. The tracklisting is:

Radiohead to release new EP?
Rumours in circulating that Radiohead will release a new EP this week.
A track was leaked recently and fans of the band noticed that source files showed Wall Of Ice was down as the title with a release date for August 17th. The fansite claims there may be four tracks on the EP and linked to the online store though as yet there is no listing on the shop.
