It’s rumoured that 80’s hardcore mob Jailcell Recipes had to pull their London show last night dude to 2 band members being down with flu. Either that or drummer Dave Arnold just couldn’t trek to London because he was shredding his backyard pool. Look out for more dates on their myspace soon and hopefully they will reschedule this one.
Them Crooked Vultures have released streams of their entire album today on youtube. This highly anticipated debut featuring the rhythm section of Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones and fronted by Queens of the Stoneage head honcho Josh Homme is released on November 16th. Perhaps the biggest surprise package of 2009, Mayer Hawthorne rolled into London to play a packed out show in the oven-like environment at the Queen of Hoxton but most certainly proved himself to be as cool as a cucumber on stage.
The man formerly known as Haircut was introduced along with his band The County, all of whom were looking very dapper in their suits, and took to the stage with a smile. From that point on it was clear that the only thing happening that night was fun!
His album, A Strange Arrangement, has the perfect balance of slow numbers and danceable Motown styled hits and Mayer was able to translate that extremely well on stage. His banter with the crowd, especially before the ballads, was brilliant so that even when the track itself didn’t get the spectators moving, smiles were firmly plastered on faces.
Running through tracks like Maybe So, Maybe No, Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out, One Track Mind and l Wish It Would Rain (complete with raindrop fingers!), the set flew by but left everyone in the building delighted they’d attended.
He saved the best track til last too, with the up-tempo The Ills, his self-confessed favourite track, finishing the night on the highest of highs with the majority of the crowd dancing as much as their confined space would let them.
He might not look like one, but Mayer Hawthorne is a star and he can only shine brighter in 2010.

Fucked Up are going to re-record the famous charity song Do They Know It’s Christmas?
The Canadian band have drafted in members of others bands to help out, including Vampire Weekend, TV On The Radio, Broken Social Scene, the GZA, Bob Mould, No Age, and Yo La Tengo according to frontman Pink Eyes. He added that they wanted one of the Jonas Brothers to be added to the line-up.
Proceeds are set to go to charities such as Justice For The Missing.
Diplo has revealed details of the new M.I.A. album.
The producer, who is currently working with Rolo Tomassi, has revealed he is one of a number of producers working on the record, including Switch. He’s described the record as “Gucci Mane meets Animals Collective” which sounds interesting to say the least!
Earache Records have announced they will release Death Metal Live on November 30th.
The set contains four original DVDs combined together in a custom sleeve for just £6.99. The four DVDs which are contained in the sleeve are:
