The Hold Steady Lose Member

The Hold Steady’s Franz Nicolay, who plays a variety of instruments including keyboards, accordion and piano, has officially left the band this week. A post on Nicolay’s website reads;

“You should know: I’ve left The Hold Steady. I told the band I’d be leaving in early September, played my last show with them in Minneapolis around Thanksgiving, and dotted the t’s and crossed the i’s this week. Five years seemed like a nice round number. Thanks to everyone who was a part of the experience, especially the Unified Scene, who are nice folks. I’ll see you all soon in any case.”

The mustached musician is now busy promoting a story collection, entitled Complicated Gardening Techniques, which is set for release next month.

Kidda animation nominated for award

Teddy Bear, the Midfield General track animated and directed by Kidda, will be screened across the UK following its nomination for a BAA People’s Choice award. The video has been selected in the Music Video category alongside promotional clips for the likes of Coldplay and Gogol Bordello.

The video, a cover of Red Sovine’s 1981 UK hit, depicts a heartbreaking story of a truck driver and a young boy who are brought together over CB radio. This is the second collaboration between Midfield General and Kidda, who had previously worked together on the track midfielding, featuring Noel Fielding.

Kidda himself is now signed to Skint records and is set to follow up his 2008 debut with a remix compilation due in February.

The BAA People’s Choice screenings information will be available from www.britishanimationawards.com in the near future.
