Lakai fully prepared..?

With rumours running rife about delayed release dates, and multiple DVD options, I thought I’d contact Lakai‘s number one representative this side of the globe, Mathieu Tourneur, to get the official low-down on Fully Flared. Here’s what he had to say:

Nah mate, don’t believe the Hype… or do?

Well, yeah, Ty (Evans) did actually clock in with a hour and a half long rough edit. We are thinking SkyOne… Murdoch is funding the extra expenses for the last skate trip on the moon!… Due to the important training these guys have to go through, we’ve pushing the deadline to somewhere around 2009….

Sorry.

Don’t hold your breath…

Dartford Skatepark goes live…

Could it be the fastest delivery of a concrete park we have seen in the UK from scratch yet?

The locals at Dartford certainly seem to think so when they saw their brand new concrete creation opened by UK heads this weekend in Kent.

Marc Churchill may be recovering from a car accident but before he was forced to get his feet up, he and his team over at Gravity made sure that Dartford now have a decent skatepark that will certainly be on the travel list once the weather picks up again.

The weather played its part in trying to disrupt the opening ceremy and by the time the officials had finished their long winded speeches, the session kicked off with Heroin Skateboards’ Chris Ault being first to transfer the hips and Greg Nowik (pictured) showing his flying credentials. as usual.

Well done to Dave and all the locals down there for showing other communities that if you take time out to get the right people involved from day one, you will end up with a park that will be skated for years. If only London skateparks could follow suit and erect somewhere new to skate so quickly from plans, everything seems to take an age here.

Rumours that Cantellowes will be open for April much the same as the new London Bridge covered park are still floating about alongside the fact that Bay 66 will get a new streetcourse. This is of course the most ABD subject on offer in West London right now but the good news is that the design has been locked down thanks to swift work from various heads and the UKSA and that discussions are now taking place about the build which is expected to be completed before May.

Stockwell resurfacing

Jeremy Donaldson and the Stockwell Skatepark locals have been busy working with the local council to ensure that the resurfacing of the legendary London park goes smoothly (pun intended).

There are talks about stripping the entire site to have it resurfaced by specialists. Jeremy has posted up possible designs here. Have a look and feel free to make any useful suggestions. Your feedback is needed.

Bachinsky on Adidas

Adidas have stepped it up a knotch by adding Massachusetts powerhouse Dave Bachinsky to the Three Stripes team. US team manager, Bryce Kanights explained his choice of Dave for the team:

Dave carries some rather big guns in his daily skating regimen. He’s a solid fit to our team and you can expect lots of progression and great things to come from him.”

Another development for Adidas, but this time in Europe is Neil Chester becoming team manager. Well done to both of them.

Anti-photo petition

Crossfire recently caught whiff of a dangerous new piece of British legislation that might try and restrict photographers from from shooting in public places.

This is not good for skate photographers who spend more time than most shutterbugs cramped up and crawling through inner city detritus for that one shot.

This is what we learnt:

‘…The UK Government is about to propose restrictions on photography in public places which could make street photography and documentary photographyagainst the law. These proposed changes to the law could result in photographers having to apply for ID cards in order to take pictures in public places.

The consequences of these proposed restrictions to the fields of documentary and street photography could be hugely damaging, potentially wiping out an entire area of photographic practice and certainly provoking suspicion around people simply carrying out their profession or hobby. The number of iconic photographers whose work would have been severely challenged by these moves is endless.

With such limitations and procedures placed on them photographers such as Diane Arbus, Walker Evans, Garry Winogrand, Ed Ruscha, Brassai, Robert Frank, Cartier-Bresson, Bill Brandt, Stephen Shore and William Eggleston would perhaps not have been able to make the work for which they are now internationally recognised.’

Crossfire invites all those who feel concerned to sign the petition preventing this Orwellian action.

You must be a British citizen to sign this petition. If you aren’t, please forward this page to someone who is. If in doubt about signing- read this.
